HAVENSCAPE CASTLE

We are a student-led team working in collaboration with The Castle Community Centre, which is run by Patricroft Community Group (CIC) in Eccles. The Castle offers a safe place for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together as a community to play, learn, and work. The refurbishment of this community building seeks to improve the existing facilities in order to offer greater quality, flexibility and healthier spaces for different interest community groups to meet. Additionally, the retrofit aspect of the project intents to improve the energy efficiency of the building by addressing deficiencies of the building fabric, as well as the existing heating and ventilations systems. Our role is to assist the Community Centre with their planning application through the production of visualisation drawings of the refurbished spaces, and sustainability strategy diagrams in order to promote the project further and secure funding!

01.02.23 - First visit at 'The Castle' Community Centre in Eccles. Dave and Alicia gave us a tour around each space of the building in order to see how the different community activities take place. Most importantly, it enabled us to understand the existing issues that they are looking to tackle and improve with the building's refurbishment and regeneration.

25.03.23 - Our second visit at The Castle Community Centre for their Biodiversity and Green Space Workshop. A brainstorming session with children and adults of the community about what they want to see as part of the green spaces at The Castle.

09.05.23 - DAY 1: On the first day, we met up in the Geoffrey Manton building and we introduced the project to the BA Students that have just joined our team! After the presentation, everybody introduced themselves and we discussed whether people wanted to be in the InDesign or SketchUp team. We finalised the roles so that everybody knew what they were doing and we answered any questions that they had. It was an enjoyable morning getting to know the team. After lunch, we all headed towards the site and met up with Dave and Judy, who talked a little bit more about the project and their vision for the place. They proceeded to give us a tour of the entire building, which gave the BA students to see the spaces they will be designing. We stayed in Eccles for around 2 hours before we headed back home. Overall, it was a productive and enjoyable day.

10.05.23 - DAY 2: We started off the day with a group meeting at MTC in order to divide the students in their preferred groups: Model Design Group and Indesign Group. Once the groups were established, they students were split in order to plan out what the tasks, assign roles, and start developing the existing building model, and poster concept ideas. The two groups began their group work and we used the rest of the day to continue working on the development of these outputs.

11.05.23 DAY 3: Today was another productive day. The two groups continued working on their individual tasks. The InDesign team is making great progress and the modelling team is almost finished with their tasks as well. The whole day we were working to finish our work for tomorrow and we should be ready to send the collaborators the poster on day 5 and be ready to furnish the model on day 6. Overall, it was a successful day and we are happy with the progress so far.

12.05.23 - DAY 4: The first action week ended on a really productive note. Everything went according to plan as we managed to finish both the 3D digital model of the existing building, and the poster for next week's community presentation. The poster was sent to the collaborators in the afternoon and will be printed and put up at The Castle prior to the event next week.

15.05.23 - DAY 5: After a successful and productive Week 1, we continued to follow the action plan and aimed to finish furnishing the 3D model and working on the visuals to present to the collaborators. So far, we have made lots of progress and we are on schedule to present to the community on Wednesday the 17th! We finalised some moodboards too that we will add to our presentation to show our design process to the collaborators.

16.05.23 - DAY 6: Today was all about drafting Enscape visuals and post production. We had already started to put our presentation together last week but it's looking so much better now that we have some renders to add. Tomorrow is a big day, so we will all meet up in the morning and finish the presentation and renders, as well as the walkthrough. Today was really helpful in getting that head start, the team is working very well together and everybody is getting along.

17.05.23 - DAY 7: Today was the day of presenting our project to the community. It was a very successful day, we answered questions from the children and we received lots of good feedback from everybody including the staff and the collaborators. After the presentation, we went upstairs and had a meeting with the collaborators to discuss any changes they'd like. Tomorrow we will focus on the changes along with preparing for the final submission.

18.05.23 - Day 8: Today we focused on finalizing the renders based on the feedback that we got and started putting everything together in our publication. Tomorrow we will export the final publication files, submit our work and send all the outputs to our collaborators.

19.05.23 - Day 9: Today was mostly about finishing all the work and submitting it on moodle. we revised the rendering of the basement, publication, and any other work that needed to be submitted. Then we had our final photoshoot in the afternoon. All the work was done today, the team worked very well together, perfect last day!
