During this project you will develop a variety of skills such as team building and people skills when communicating with the client. During the design process you will develop skills such as sketching, critical thinking and site research as we develop the project. We will then move on to the production and finalisation of the project which will develop skills such as graphic design, Software skills and model making.

These skills will be developed during the project as we engage with the client and the design process.

UNDERGRADUATE: Liverpool John Moore’s University.

PART 1 EXPERIENCE: Falconer Chester Hall Architects, Liverpool. I mainly worked on large residential schemes.

SKILLS: SketchUp, Auto CAD, MicroStation, Adobe Suite, Enscape.

ARCHITECTURAL INTEREST: Adaptive Reuse, Heritage conservation and restoration, Residential.

OUTSIDE INTERESTS: Football, Golf, Rugby, Travelling.

FUN FACT: I have 30 cousins.

Day Five – Design Competition

The 5th day started with a design challenge which tasked the students to produce a design idea for the publication's front cover. Each student presented their ideas using sketches or collages.

After a morning of designing, students presented their ideas to be used as the publication's front cover. There was a key theme in the designs as each student introduced the building into the collage to represent the project.

Day Six – Finalising Design

The 6th day started with a collaboration of ideas for the final design. The BA students started drawing the plans to scale at 1:50. Followed by drawing these up in CAD.

After a morning of finalising the design through sketches, we started drawing up the plans on AutoCAD and modelling through SketchUp.

While half of the group worked on the CAD drawings and model, the other half started creating the existing building in our site model.

Day Seven – CAD Drawing

The 7th day focused on producing our final drawings from the sketch design we created yesterday. We split the group into 4 and each group had a task to complete which included plans, elevations, digital model and physical model.

Day Eight – Final Preparation’s

The 8th day focused on finishing the final drawings and preparing our publication ready for our submission. We finished our digital model and plans and the students created visuals for the client.

After finishing the existing context, the students worked on creating the final design in the workshop. As a group they worked on creating accurate materials for each part of the design.
