CO GREEN

We are CO GREEN - a student led team working collaboratively For Tyldesley CIC to develop an edible garden. Our aim is enhance the 'Shaping Tyldesley' mural on Common Lane by integrating planting and seating to create a shared space for the community. We will be working with the local community and host a series of community engagement sessions to draw out ideas to create an innovative inclusive space for all.

For Tyldesley is a community-led scheme funded by Historic England to revitalise and transform Tyldesley. They focus on projects that will bring physical improvements and cultural activities to regenerate and restore local historic character. Their team includes;

DAY ONE!

we started the session by doing a range of ice breaker activities in order to get to know one another better. following this we deconstructed the brief so that the new members of the group could gain a better understanding of what is expected from the project. site analysis as well as background research on For Tyldesley was conducted. we finished off the session with a collaging activity, where all members expressed their visions for the site using images that they had found in their initial research.

DAY TWO!

we started off the morning with a bus to Tyldesley, to conduct a site visit. we walked along the high street to understand the rich cultural heritage that the area holds and how to incorporate these elements back to the site and enhance the existing mural.

DAY TWO!

we followed the site visit, with a community consultation at the complete kindness café to get feedback on what local individuals would like to see on this site. this session allowed the community to voice their opinions, educate us on the historic elements of Tyldesley which are forgotten about and create excitement for the future interventions on the high street.

DAY TWO!

we finished off the day with a session with the eco council at st george's central c.e., this session included a number of children who were passionate about creating a sustainable safe space for them to enjoy as well as attracting wildlife. the children took part in activities that included drawing, placing and using lego on large sheets of the site. the children voiced their opinions and were excited to see what the final outcome would be!

DAY THREE!

a morning of focused individual working, we worked on collating information from the focus groups and condensing that information into diagrams and plans to further understand the aim for the site. further research into the site’s history alongside the mining industry was conducted.

DAY THREE!

in the afternoon we took a trip down to the hulme community garden centre to learn about different types of vegetation that could be included in our site. we looked at a variety of edible plants that would be safe for children to be around and would be used by the community café. following information provided from the consultations we have been able to select a variety of plants that would be suitable for the site and the overall use.

DAY FOUR!

our morning started off with group presentations and conversations, we all shared our findings from the consultations and what the required output for the site needs to be. this was followed by presentations on inspirational precedent studies which could influence the design of the site.

we followed with a sketching workshop, where we all created individual site plans with the information gathered from the last few days.

DAY FIVE !

and we’re back for day five, we started off the day with a rhino workshop by Xinyi and Kehan. A detailed explanation of how to create the surrounding building blocks for the digital site model was presented. The session was followed by distributing the blocks among the members of the group to replicate in the Rhino.

we started off todays session with a cad workshop led by simran, the session included information on wayfinding and getting to know the basics. the information shared within this session would inform the outline of some of the visualisation.

model making is on its way! the afternoon was spent putting the model together a range of materials have been used to create our design proposal; mdf, card, corrugated card, dry flowers.

the rest of the group focused on digital rendering using software’s such as photoshop, rhino and enscape. working together in smaller groups allowed us to share some tips and tricks on the individual softwares.

it’s the final push! an intense photoshopping day to finish off all the renders and visuals for the project. collaborating to ensure all outcomes were consistent and followed a clear style.
