Group 33
THE MOBEELITY HUBS

In collaboration with Manchester City Council’s Infrastructure and Environment Team, we explore how The Mobeelity Hubs could reshape everyday travel across Manchester. Together, we imagine a future network of integrated mobility hubs, welcoming transport nodes on streetsides and in off-street spaces. These hubs will bring together different ways of travelling in one place, making it easier for people to move around using sustainable options. People can easily switch between bikes, e-scooters, buses, cars, and walking routes, supported by public facilities such as seating, green spaces, cafés, and local services. We aim to make sustainable travel the easiest and most attractive choice while creating hubs that feel safe, accessible, and enjoyable. These hubs will support healthier lifestyles, reduce carbon emissions, and improve air quality. Working with real locations across Manchester, we will develop bold ideas and practical concepts that can be shared with residents and stakeholders to inspire support and future funding. The Mobeelity Hubs is helping to create a more connected city — helping Manchester move better, together!

Today marks our first meeting at the MTC! Firstly, the group decided that from today on, we are ‘The Mobeelity Hubs’, combining the bee-like movements and connection of Manchester’s transportation, mascot and the brief. To warm up our brains, we started with completing our group contract and signing it together before sharing our ideas on our poster design draft, presenting our own interpretations of the brief. Seeing each other’s poster design will inspire the final product, elevating the poster with new and combined perspectives. Moving on to the core of our project, we discussed the relevance and key points of each person’s suggested precedent studies, reflecting each one against the brief. After getting into the design headspace, we started to discuss the advantages and disadvantages and decided to bring our focus to Oldham road as our site amongst other potential corridor locations.
With this, the first official meeting ended and we all set of to individually research the site to then merge our knowledge together next meeting.

Starting the day with the lecture, we were briefed on risk assessments, budget plans, project timelines and the ethics application. We then had a lunch break and gathered to have a meeting. We first discussed our deadlines and recap the lecture. After completing a draft of the budget plan, we moved on to exploring our individual research conducted from last meeting. Since last meeting, the client has sent us specified sites, so we decided to discuss that further before creating 3 different groups for site visits in a week’s time. Despite narrowing our site during last meeting, we still want to explore the different sites and keep our research wide-ranged. With the dates for the site visits set for 1st of March as the kickstart, we have created a programme for the rest of the project, compromising and respecting each person’s deadlines as promised in our contract, where we also completed the ethics application and the risk assessments.

Yesterday was our long awaited site visits! We divided ourselves into three groups to visit three sites: Minstrelsy Parade (Wythenshawe), Oxford Road Corridoor and Abraham Moss (Oldham). We walked at the site, around the site and towards some interesting highlights of the site. After taking photos and videos, we each upload out individual overview of the place in Miro, for example: design ideas, what we find interesting, advantages, disadvantages, etc. Now, we are onto focusing on the next client meeting!

Today we took a big step forward with our second client meeting, discussing about our sites and further developing our understanding of the brief. We presented what we have so far to the client and note down their likes and requests. It was very useful for us as a group to further consult the client, ensuring we start our actual designs with the right idea. They reminded us that the aim to increase social interactions in the community wasn’t shown as clearly in the poster, suggesting that we add more elements of human interaction. Other than the addition to the poster, the clients were pleased by the direction we were going and left excited for the next meeting. We then continued towards the lecture hall to listen to a valuable lecture on community and importance of inclusive designs. After our lunch break, we gathered to discuss the client meeting further with our tutor and started paving our way towards the first few designs.

Like every other Tuesday sessions, we started with a lecture where a few third year masters of Architecture came to talk about their own MSA live project and give us useful insights as we arrive on the mid point of our project time lines. Our afternoon session started with the whole group exploring each other’s design ideas merging our design strengths to finalise a structure for our Mobeelity hub. To locate a point in our site to set the hub up, the team needed a map. This was when the bachelors of architecture received a short but informative, quick guide to making 3D maps from Aleksandra, while the other focus on the other aspects of our new designs. To end the day, we tasked each person to produce, design and create accordingly to their strengths and will touch base again next Wednesday. We are very proud of our pace and our team work that allows our project to bud at this speed. 17/March/2026

Today we had yet another successful meeting. We started as usual looking the research and produce we brought in. As the MAs continue to work through the 3D maps, the MArchs and the BAs discuss the hub’s materiality, furniture, location and innovation sustainable features. This will allow us to scope down the range of our design output later on. After narrowing down the useful ideas, we revised out timeline and confirmed the date April 21st as our engagement day, working to gain public opinion. We tasked ourselves with bringing in materials and completion of the 3D maps. Additional meetings before the date will be informed through our group chat as usual. We got this!

After our long break, the Mobeelity Hubs have returned to start our engagement activity. We all gathered at the MMU library to set up our small stand, which includes a large map, pins, consents forms and activity information flyers. As we quickly set up, we meet with our master's in landscape architecture student, Karina Boza for the first time. We quickly gave her a warm welcome, introduced ourselves and gave her a quick catch up of the task and the project. Karina was very quick to settle in and went straight to work with the rest of us. 21/April/2026

Our engagement activity starts with inviting students and staff over to explain our project and show them our huge map, then we ask them to sign our consent forms as we explain to them the short task. The busy and fast-paced environment within the library at times limited opportunities for sustained engagement with participants, but we collected a wide range of data through direct approach and clear communication with participants.

Using two pins, the students were able to help us find the most travelled routes and decide the location of our Mobeelity hubs. The first pin is gold, placed on where they first set off in their journey. The second pin is a coloured pin, placed on their destination. We then used a red string to highlight the route, using density of the strings to locate the most travelled route, and therefore, the most suitable roads to place our Mobeelity Hubs. Managing the pins, strings, and map carefully was necessary to keep the data accurate and readable, avoiding possible errors and confusion in mapping the data.

With everybody present and working, we worked up to reaching our goal of 50 routes very quickly and retained very useful information. We then carefully moved our map to the MTC for safe keeping, avoiding damage to the delicate board. Good work everyone, and welcome to the team Karina!

Welcome back everyone! Good work on your intensive deadline week! Today we are bringing the gang back together to complete our designs and presentation. This whole week, we all are putting in 100% and more to ensure this project comes out polished and perfect.
Posted 12 May 2026 11:04
Today specifically, we are dividing our tasks according to our individual strengths. The MArchs are leading the team, guiding each person's tasks. Jason is leading the presentation, Alexandra is leading the publication, and Jia En is supporting both while filling completing any other tasks. Karina is working on the site's geographical information while the MAs are modelling the site contexts. The rest of the BA1s are supporting the MArchs and completing the presentations and gathering information. With our tasks allocated, we all set sail to complete as much as we can. Let's go Mobeelity Hubs!
Posted 12 May 2026 11:05
Today we moved over to MTC, where we continued our combined efforts to meet this week's deliverables. Yesterday, we planned the locations of our schemes to fit within the site context. We left the site context to our landscape professional: Karina, as she continues to add landscape features. The MArch students are continuing their work as Jia En has been editing material for our presentation. I have completed the renders of the scheme yesterday, and today's agenda includes finishing the architectural drawings. Yesterday, Jason has been delegating the group work and working with the BA students to include them in the design and presentation process, as he starts on the presentation, and he will continue to do so today.
Posted 12 May 2026 11:34
Today, the BA1s are continuing their delegated work. Rodrigo is finishing up his visual work and material research. Natasha starts with checking and editing the vlog as usual and will soon work on brushing up our timeline. Silvia is looking for good inspirations for the timeline's visuals on the presentation; she will work with Natasha on making it later on. Kai is continuing the publication work and soon will be helping Jason with the presentation.
Posted 12 May 2026 12:32
Continuing from yesterday, Jason is continuing to finish the presentation, Jie En is making diagrams for design development and Alexandra is rendering the final designs. We are moving quickly and working very well as a team. If we finish what needs to be done early today, the MArchs are going to show the BAs a few software that would be useful for the later years.
Posted 13 May 2026 12:26
On the third day of our intensive week, the BAs are continuing to assist on any possible tasks. As per usual, I am looking over and editing all the vlog posts, then helping Jason with writing up information for the presentation after I finished the presentation’s visualisation of the project time line from yesterday. Rodrigo is finalising the material lists and searching for collaborators in Manchester or anywhere nearby. Carrie is working on Harvard referencing for all the information. Silvia is editing the visuals for the project timeline while Kai is finishing up his graphs. We are boosting morale by taking more expressive photos for the vlog!

By today, the MAs are wrapping up all the 6-site context modelling. They have been working very hard as the large task has only been divided between the two of them. If they manage to finish that today, they will help the MArchs with the rest of the digital work. So far things are looking very bright and going at the exact pace we hoped it will. Let's keep moving Group 33!
Posted 13 May 2026 13:02
The MAs have finished all site context modelling today and will touch up on before confirming the finalized version. The details of the 3D site look amazing, good job MAs! After that, they will help the MArchs with the rest of the digital work as previously planned. We are very excited to pitch out work to the clients this Friday!

This afternoon Emily came in to visit our workspace, so we decided to give her a short presentation about our project. After a short preview of Friday, Emily gave us some feedback before praising us and moving on to the next group. Responding to the feedback, we are now working on adding more client information onto the slides. Thank you for your feedback Emily!
