STORY WORKS

Located in the heart of the city’s creative and industrial sectors, Story Works strives to support writers, publishers and literary enthusiasts through a collaboration with Manchester’s City of Literature charity. The cohesive layout within Campfield House shifts throughout the day, from morning writing use, daytime public access and potential events to be hosted in the evenings. Key features our design incorporates include the space’s accessibility and adaptability. This project will serve as a Literature House for Manchester, a city recognised by UNESCO for its rich literary heritage, and endeavours to further foster the expression of future generations.

Today marked our first session as a group. We started with some icebreaker tasks where we introduced ourselves and our interests within architecture. We then began studying and interpreting our brief before discussing important questions we would later need to ask our collaborator.

Later we started to divide up tasks, with small groups working on either: poster design, blog or project description. Before the end of our session, we shared what we had come up with and any ideas we had within our groups.

After the first session it was time to meet our collaborator, during the meeting we were able to: get a better sense of what kind of space they wanted us to create, ask and discus any questions we had and orginise a date and time for a site visit.

Today was our second scheduled meeting. Starting with the poster we discussed the current design and suggested improvements to be made before the submission. We uploaded our project description, completed our first few blog posts and started to talk over our: project timeline, budget, risk assessment and ethics application. Finally we divided up the tasks for the next two weeks.
