Day One

Starting the day in Chorlton Park, the BA students meet our team and the collaborators from CBD and Architecture Unknown for the first time! Splitting into 3 groups, each group visited their site for analysis. Each group had a member of our team, as well as a member from CBD or Architecture Unknown, so the BA students have the opportunity to understand the brief and site in further depth before beginning their design processes tomorrow. With some successful site analysis, we ended our day by gathering again in the Precinct Shop, with a reflection of the day as well as questions by BA students for our team and CBD.

Day Two:

To begin the day we reflected on the conversations the student had with us, CBD and Architecture Unknown, before formally introducing the brief, programme, outputs and week structure through a presentation. Collectively we looked at a previous project of Architecture Unknown to understand the complexities of the public and private spaces. The students then split into their groups and began working in teams to organise the programme onto their sites. Throughout the day, we engaged with the groups to have open discussions about their initial design decisions.

Day Three

The day was dedicated to refining the groups sketched plans to scale in AutoCAD. This included adding details that would normally be seen at 1:100. We also discussed feasibility and functionality of the spaces by closely referring to the dimensions provided by our collaborator, Glynis. Once these plans where refined, we had group workshops regarding sustainable and local materials. This afternoon we also provided 1:1 workshops with students wanting to learn AutoCAD software to aid their design development.

Day Four

We started the day with an online meeting to discuss our goals and what assistance the students may need. The students then met up in their respective groups to carry out AutoCAD plans and begin on drawing sections before our second meeting of the day. After lunch they presented their work and precedent research on efficient bike storage and discussed planning requirements, drawing conventions and presentation styles for the following days.

Day Seven

Today was dedicated to 1:1 workshops in AutoCAD, Illustrator and Twinmotion depending on the groups skillset and progress. This was executed by the team leaders splitting in three to help aid the groups on their requirements catered to their particular project. Whilst team leaders typically worked alongside 1 member of each team, the remaining team members took on other roles such as working on section and elevation drawings or 3D modelling. This ensured that each member had a role and the groups where in constant communication regarding the development of the project by working alongside each other.

Day Ten

Today was dedicated to showcasing the three design proposals to Chorlton Bike Hub and Architects Unknown at the Youth Club of St Clement’s Church. We began the day by informing our guests of the student’s progress made over the two weeks. Each team successfully presented the key considerations of their designs, receiving high praises and positive feedback!
