DAY ONE!

Today we introduced ourselves formally to the undergraduate students. We then explained the aims and creative goals of the projects. We asked the students to vote for their preferred group and following this separated everyone into these groups. Each group then explored their initial ideas. Overall a super productive day! Excited for the project!

DAY ONE - AFTERNOON

In the afternoon, following the introductions, we had a talk from Ms Emily Crompton regarding The Proud Trust and their new facilities. The talk explored the development and history of the building and the charity, as well as the importance of architectural equality.

On day two we explored the queer spaces currently in Manchester. Photos feature everyone on Canal Street and outside the Proud Trust.

DAY THREE!

Today Mr Reece Davey spoke to the undergraduate students about the history of the LGBTQ+ community. Later we continued to work on developing ideas in our selected groups.

DAY THREE - AFTERNOON

Mr Paul Fairweather came to Manchester in 1978 to work for the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, and he has been active in a whole range of LGBT+ activities since. He came to talk to the group about the history of the LGBTQ+ community in Manchester. The talk was extremely informative and useful, and Paul was even kind enough to answer our questions afterwards. Thank you Paul!

DAY FOUR!

Today, we were fortunate enough to visit the Manchester Central Library Archive! They had kindly prepared a large amount of LGBTQ+ historic archive material for us to look at.

DAY FOUR

Here we have attached some images of magazines and newspapers found in the archive. Each student went through a few boxes of materials each. Taking photos of any relevant pieces. We managed to find some incredible material and we are looking forward to using it in our magazine.

DAY FIVE!

This morning we had a meeting with ARUP - our partner in this project. Mr Anmar presented his current work and some of his research findings. This was extremely insightful and informative. We appreciate all of his help and support with the project so far, and look forward to working with him throughout the rest of the project.

DAY SIX!

Today everyone is continuing to work on their individual outputs. The Archive group are gathering texts and creating detailed profiles. The Making group are creating photo collages, gathering images, making models of important buildings and creating maps of queer spaces in Manchester. The Curation team is building an indesign document, designing the front cover, and creating the contents page, ready for the team to drop their work into. So far it has been a super productive day, looking forward to seeing all of the outputs!

DAY SEVEN!

Today we are gathering everyones work and preparing it for the final magazine. All submitted content looking great so far!!

DAY SEVEN

Our curation team have been busy working on the front cover!! After a lot of brainstorming the team have decided on the name BASEMENT. Looking great so far, looking forward to seeing the rest.

DAY EIGHT!

Today it is super rainy in Manchester, but that hasn't deterred our students! Everyone is in attendance today, starting to compile the magazine, students drawings and collages are looking great so far!
