DAY 1 - TASK 1 + TASK 2
Proposed Plant Schedule + Collage

The early stages of the project challenged us to think both creatively and practically. Through conceptual collages, we translated abstract ideas into visual representations exploring potential elements, materials, and colour palettes to envision the herbal memorial garden not just as a space, but as a meaningful experience grounded in memory, nature, and community. Alongside this, we conducted research into plant species that could thrive on-site, focusing on herbs and vegetables that are resilient, low-maintenance, and culturally significant. This dual approach helped us shape a vision that is both imaginative and rooted in sustainable reality.

Day 3 Roundup

Yesterday we visited the site so that our new members could meet the client, understand the current condition of the buildings, and sketch and discuss initial ideas.

For many of our group this was their first time meeting a client to discuss a brief and have a chance to share their spatial ideas in-situ. We even had the chance to teach some surveying skills!

Next steps…

On Day 4 we will begin developing our initial ideas as well as produce the existing drawings of the buildings.

Day 2 - 13.05.25 - Stakeholder meeting

On the Second day, we had the privilege of meeting with key stakeholders and collaborators involved in the Bradford Live Festival, thanks to an introduction from our local council partner, Jade Ibegbuna, at the Bradford 2025 office. During this session, we engaged with representatives from LEAP, Bradford 2025, the University of Bradford, and the Youth Panel.

We presented our initial concepts for the interactive wayfinding game we are developing for the festival. The feedback we received was invaluable, with the stakeholders highlighting practical considerations and real-world constraints and pointing out new opportunities to enhance our proposal. Their insights will help us refine our approach, ensuring that our project is both ambitious and grounded in the realities of delivering an activity within a major cultural event like Bradford 2025, while fitting the needs of a very diverse audience.

Day 2 - 13.05.25 - Visit to SAIL (Saltaire)

This afternoon, we had the chance to visit SAIL, a fantastic non-profit sustainable organisation based in Saltaire. We explored their Recycled Materials Hub, which aims to source high-quality reusable materials for the creative and cultural industries, such as theatre, film, TV, arts, and other creative projects. The hub’s mission is to reduce waste, cut costs, and support a circular economy.

We had some engaging conversations with Project Coordinator Pip and Executive Director Jamie from SAIL, who gave us a tour of the hub and introduced us to a wide variety of reusable materials—some of which were originally used in the previous City of Culture festival, which was amazing to see!

Together, we discussed the potential of these materials for our upcoming Bradford 2025 celebration strategies. From reclaimed sheet materials to a diverse collection of stage set props, we actively brainstormed how these resources could be incorporated into our future design works.

The visit left us feeling truly inspired, and engaging with the celebration-related materials gives us renewed confidence in the creative possibilities of our designs going forward.

Day 3.

Workshops, Concepts, 3Ds, AI!

In architecture and design, we learn something new in every project we take on, no matter how big or small. And it is always a positive sign that the process is going well ahead.

Today, we decided to show a few cool techniques for concept development to the undergrad members of our team using methods involving 3Dimensional modelling, AI image generations and overall image development. This, combined with initial ideation helped us further develop the understanding of developing visual design narratives, something that we really looked forward to during our time in undergraduate studies.

Day 02 - Site visit & Concept brainstorming

In the morning we revisited the site with BA1,BA2 and the new members of MLA1. Touring the site and discussing the possibilities of a preliminary programme. We also took measurements of some of the existing frames and parts of the site that need to be preserved, to understand the exact scale will help the design to move forward in the later stages.

In the afternoon we collated and discussed the photos, data, and inspirational groupings from the site visit. Understanding the current state of the site and the natural factors. Experimenting with sketching and modelling to test preliminary ideas. Incorporate the client's needs and envisage what the teaching space would look like. What will the flow route throughout the green garden look like? And will the façade of the pergola change? How to incorporate the existing structure.

These ideas will be deepened on the third day ....

Day 2 – 13.05.25 – Bradford and Saltaire Visit

Today, we had the luck of bringing the summer weather to Bradford for our site visit!

We want to thank our incredible collaborator, Jade Ibegbuna, for creating a thorough itinerary and an action-packed day for the team! In the morning, we visited Bradford's key buildings, such as the Town Hall, Alhambra, and Bradford Live, looking at key architectural details and characteristics that can be used in our project.

In the afternoon, we took a quick train from Bradford Foster Square to one of the city’s 30 wards, Saltaire. There, we explored the historical area of its salt mill countryside and also visited a great organisation, SAIL, who stores, recycles, and donates old materials from TV productions and theatre!

Afterwards, we returned to the city to meet with other stakeholders of the Bradford 2025 events team, Leap, and members of Bradford University to give us insights into how we can incorporate fun and engaging techniques for our project.

05.14 _ PRESENTATION TEAM

Today we have been working on refining the PowerPoint ready for the presentations. It’s looking colourful and interactive and explains our concepts in simple terms. We’re still working on the animations to add that extra bit of fun but the content is well on its way to completion.

We have also started looking at creating some collages of the site to include in our informative sessions with the children to show them the potential of the site and some ideas we have had to develop it and what people training to be architects can do. This is our opportunity to show off to them a little bit with what we know and hopefully inspire them more for their future careers.

Action Week: Day 3

In the afternoon, each of our groups designed relevant cases in detail. Each group reported on their cases, and each of us actively communicated and came up with some feasible solutions. This provides a basic idea for us to make models tomorrow. Each group's plan has its shining points, which we need to continue to design.

Day 1 - 12.05.25 – Mapping Tutorials and Site Analysis

Before the site visit, the team did some initial research on the urban context of Bradford, particularly into the culture and infrastructure. In tandem, the MAR students has provided tutorials for the team to create informative maps visually by looking at precedents and showcasing the process of making site maps. These processes include key websites' recommendations to find information and software guidance and tips. The key areas we tried to highlight are the historic buildings with a rich history of Bradford's past: the Town Hall, Bradford Live, Alhambra and many more. These buildings will be the key to telling the story of Bradford's development within our festival game.

For key infrastructures, we investigated the key routes and circulation of how people enter and explore the city, the green spaces within the city centre, and ethnic diversity. These will allow us to explore the wayfinding element within our design and find ways to attract individuals from the outskirts of Bradford to the city centre.

Action Week: Day 3

On the third day, after reviewing yesterday's content, we put forward some summary content. Then we divided the students into three groups to continue to deepen our plan. Through continuous thinking and collaboration, we successfully came up with three specific plan forms today. This also provides optional plans for our report to the staff of the Bolton rescue team tomorrow. This is a meaningful plan deepening activity, which not only improves work efficiency in teamwork, but also allows us to learn new knowledge in teamwork. We also met the instructor in the classroom, and we also shared our progress plan with him.

Day 1 - 12.05.25 – Icebreaker

We did a quick icebreaker to help introduce everyone to the project brief. The key driver to this project is the preparation for a big festival to celebrate Bradford's historic development and the cultural diversity of the 30 wards in the district. So, we asked everyone to draw a key event that can take place in a festival, and we would pass that drawing to the next person and develop it further.

The key events people highlighted are stalls, food, or items that allow others to understand and connect to the cultural diversity of the people in Bradford. This is followed by entertainment, music, or performance and then by the fun activities that can be hosted.

May 14th

We kicked off the day by announcing the four furniture ideas we’ll be developing further: the weaving lounge, a workshop table and chair set, a chandelier, and a pegboard wall. Super exciting to see these ideas starting to take shape! We also had a great session with Jaime, who introduced us to some really cool techniques like laser cutting and 3D printing with recycled plastic—definitely opened up new possibilities for how we can connect and shape our pieces. Later on, we shared our preliminary design concepts with Caitlin and got some helpful feedback to keep things moving forward.

On Day 3, we reviewed and analysed the results of the previous day’s site visit and community interviews. We carefully discussed the feedback from local residents and combined it with the site and social observations made by the analysis team. As a result, we identified several key needs: to improve the safety and accessibility of the area, to protect key green spaces, and to create opportunities for community interaction. Based on these insights, we developed the design concept for the project. Our proposal focuses on transforming the underused car park into a multifunctional public space, including landscaped gardens, pedestrian-friendly pathways, seating areas, and community activity zones with interactive installations. The concept aims to reconnect the site with the daily life of the Droylsden community and enhance its role as a welcoming and inclusive urban space.

05.14 _ MODEL MAKING TEAM

We are working hard to get the models done today. We are working on making a sturdy base for the children to build off and get really hands on with. We’re all busy making use of the B15 workshop and the laser cutter and we’ve been glueing the pieces together so we’re all prepared for next week. 15 models later and we’ve got quite a collection ready to build on and take with us to detail with the children. We’re quite happy with the progress of our work so far and are ready to reconvene tomorrow to update the rest of the team on our success

05.14 _ PAPER FOLDING TEAM

Today means continuing to work on the paper model folding activity for the workshop. We are working out the kinks from yesterday’s prototypes, adding a few hatching textures to bring it to life, and finalising the layout of the sheets for printing.

We are also starting to look and creating some 3D furniture pieces that the children will be able to use when creating their own designs in plan as well as on the 3D models to make them pop and come to life. This involves flattening the 3D pieces into nets once again, showing us how to think in two different planes and work between them. They’re very small though so we’re considering the real feasibility of this for the children (and us) to be able to complete.

DAY 3 – On Site
Our third day marked a key moment in the development of the ECO CHURCH project, as we visited the United Didsbury Methodist Church together with our new members.

Client Introduction and Project Briefing
We began the day by returning to site with our full team. Rev. Catharine Hughes and Dr. Dave Armstrong kindly welcomed our new team members, introducing themselves and sharing the background, ambitions, and future vision for the church. This gave everyone a better understanding of the project’s social and environmental context.

Team Discussion: Clarifying the Project Vision
Back inside, we held a team discussion to clearly define our project goals. Together, we outlined our collective vision, the client’s expectations, and how we hope to create design strategies that are realistic, inclusive, and sustainable.

Site Walkthrough and Measurements
After the briefing, the new members were led through a site walkthrough. We introduced key interior and exterior spaces. And make more detailed measurements for the key spaces.

Initial Task Distribution
To ensure an efficient and well-coordinated process, we also started to allocate initial responsibilities across the team.

DAY 2 – Researching BREEAM
On our second day, we shifted our focus toward understanding BREEAM Infrastructure, one of the world’s leading sustainability assessment methods for the built environment.

What is BREEAM?
We began by breaking down the core principles of BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). Through personal research, we explored its key categories.

Why BREEAM Matters to Our Project?
As our site – United Didsbury Methodist Church – aims to become more environmentally responsible, BREEAM provides a relevant framework for assessing design proposals and interventions. It helped us reflect on how our design decisions might influence energy use, community well-being, and long-term adaptability.

Turning Inspiration into Ideas
14/05/25

After our amazing Inspiration Day, we came together as a group to unpack all the brilliant feedback we gathered from the kids, staff, and stakeholders. It was time to start imagining what the spaces could actually look like. We broke into smaller groups to begin shaping ideas and exploring how to turn their input into real design proposals.

We also held a series of informal presentations within the group to share progress and test ideas. It was great to see so many creative contributions, especially from the BA students who brought fresh perspectives and strong concepts to the table. It was another great, collaborative day — full of creativity, teamwork, and energy. The project is really starting to take shape, and we’re excited about where it’s heading!

Day 3 – May 14th: From Analysis to Action

Today was all about deepening our design logic and giving form to our ideas. We began with a detailed site analysis, considering three different aspects: sensory experience, exhibit links and potential user groups. This helped ground our concepts in spatial reality.

The day continued with digital upskilling—Revit tutorials for 3D modelling and AutoCAD for 2D drawings. Meanwhile, some of us curated mood boards, articulating the vision through textures, colours, and materials that could shape the sensory atmosphere.

Building on the past two days, we moved into early modelling and layout drafting, translating group concepts into floor plans and initial design sketches. We also set the structure for our final booklet, planning how best to communicate our design narrative and decisions to clients.

Step by step, the sensory room is beginning to take shape—visually, spatially, and conceptually.

Day 3 (Half Day) – 2 pm to 6 pm

After a busy morning getting stuck into the workshop for Rhino, Revit, and Twinmotion, we had a well-earned lunch break. Then it was back to business, or rather, into group mode!

We split into two teams to prepare for tomorrow’s big presentation to the client. One group dove headfirst into the design scheme, while the other tackled building regulations and cooked up a proposed heating system for the (very characterful) Grade-listed building.

Plenty of teamwork, a dash of problem-solving, and just the right amount of pre-presentation panic.

Day 3 : Workshop Day – Revit & Twinmotion Magic!

Alexia, one of our brilliant team members, is a bit of a pro when it comes to Revit and Twinmotion. She walked us through the basics, just enough so the rest of the team could start getting to grips with the software and use it for coordinating plans and drawings more smoothly.

She also showed off a fun way to use Twinmotion, proper handy stuff! It’s especially useful for the BA1 and BA2 students as they start gearing up for their next design projects in the new academic year.
Posted 14 May 2025 16:06
Day 3 : Workshop Day – Rhino Time!

Roy’s a total pro at Rhino, so he gave the team a quick intro workshop to help us get to grips with the interface. Some of us aren’t too familiar with the software, so it was a great chance to explore and play around a bit instead of just powering through the assignment.

Not everyone has Rhino, though it’s a bit pricey, but luckily the computer room at MTC has it installed. So when it’s time to whip up diagrams or models in Rhino, a few of us will be heading over there to get stuck in soon.

Day 3 Intensive Week – Cost Breakdown
After sending Anna the two construction options for the planters last night, we began with a call with her to determine which type she wanted to go ahead with… she chose the construction method using sleepers. We therefore spent the morning tweaking the design, while producing detailed construction drawings to use when on site. This was an iterative process to ensure the construction would be as simple as possible, whilst still achieving the overall appearance we and Anna were aiming for.
Once we had the design for the planter and a bench type to match, we were able to calculate the number of items needed for the site plan Anna had agreed to - 8 planters and 2 benches. She had also hoped to make the planters as environmentally friendly as possible, so asked to use untreated wood, if we could do so within budget. After a sunny lunch break, we intensively researched building suppliers to compare the availability and price of the materials needed (with options for treated and untreated timber) and check delivery options to begin building Monday. We rounded the day off with speaking to Anna to go through the cost options for the best option of treated and the best option of untreated.
Posted 14 May 2025 15:53
We met in the Geoffrey Manton building at 10 am. Kunal conducted a short presentation highlighting the action plan for the week, setting out the time frames and expectations for deliverables. We then separated into our three teams and continued to work on creating the visuals. The Enscape team began developing their skills in SketchUp, and we had some issues with the software, but we managed to swap computers around to ensure each student had a working SketchUp and Enscape set up. The Lumion and V-Ray teams relocated to the CAD lab to conduct their workshops. The primary focus for the day was on adding materials to the models.
Posted 14 May 2025 15:20
Day 2 of our MSA action week was a hands-on adventure. After a quick briefing in the morning, we got down to business with some intense site analysis, gathering key details and sketching out our ideas.

But the real excitement came in the evening when we took a trip to Delamere School for an in-depth tour. We met with Sally, the head teacher, who gave us valuable insights into the spaces we’ll be designing. We took precise measurements of the rooms and external space, ensuring we could draft the most accurate and functional designs possible.

It was a productive day that helped ground our ideas in the real-world context, and we’re excited to move forward with the design process.

Action Weeks: Day 1

Today, we had our first full team meeting! It was a great opportunity to meet the rest of the group and officially start working on our Shed project. First, new team members were introduced to the collaborators, the project brief, its aims, and expected outcomes. Then, we all headed to the site so that everyone could get familiar with the location and context. We documented the remaining missing information by taking measurements, photos, and each of us sketched initial ideas for The Shed at the Landing. We're looking forward to developing our visions further tomorrow, starting with a discussion of everyone's sketches.
Posted 14 May 2025 14:20
Day 2: Afternoon
With the morning’s feedback fresh in mind, the focus shifted toward grounded design. Each group returned to their concepts and began to reshape them, now layering in the practical requirements of the brief : roof canopy, stability and table tops. What began as imaginative explorations began to evolve into tangible proposals. Sketching, collaging, digital modelling, and technical conversations took over the space as we worked toward solutions that not only inspired but also worked. By the end of the day, each team had established a clear design direction that is distinct, yet rooted in the client’s needs. These refined ideas mark the first step in transforming the impossible into the possible. Tomorrow, the students will focus on creating scaled models at 1:10 scale and begin their preparations for the building workshop on Day 4!
Posted 14 May 2025 14:00
Day 2: Morning
Today began with each group presenting their conceptual visions of the (im)Possibility Machine to our client, Joseph Schneider. These presentations showcased a rich variety of ideas—from playful, interactive interventions to thought-provoking spatial concepts—all imagined with no constraints. The energy in the room was electric as each team articulated their creative processes and the narratives behind their work. Joseph responded with enthusiasm and insightful feedback, helping us understand which elements aligned closely with the project’s direction and where refinement was needed. His input challenged us to think more critically about how to bridge ambition with purpose.

Day 3:
Inspired by precedent studies, today we got making! We explored forms, multi-purpose structures, scale and thought about materiality and application on the site at Buile Hill Park. Tomorrow we’re visiting site as a group so we’ll discuss and explore how our concepts can adapt to the place and people we’re designing for. We’re looking forward to meeting the community!

DAY 1
Group Meet-Up

Our journey began with an energising first meeting, where ideas sparked and connections were made. As we introduced ourselves, explored the project brief, and shared initial thoughts, it became clear that this collaboration would be driven by diverse perspectives, shared goals, and a strong sense of purpose. A promising start to what lies ahead.
Posted 14 May 2025 12:57
The site analysis and model making teams presented their research findings and conclusions to the group at the end of day two.
Posted 14 May 2025 12:54
The model-making team created a site model that features the Chapel - reconstructed to its original form - neighboring buildings, different access routes, and the existing graveyard.

The model also includes movable elements to accommodate our conceptual design strategies, which will be developed in the next few days. Because of the site’s existing damages, the team was challenged to infer the structural design of the roof by referring to historic images collected by the site analysis team.

The day kicked off with excitement and curiosity as we met new faces and introduced ourselves to one another. We delved into the project brief and began an engaging discussion around our shared goals and initial ideas. To break the ice and spark some creativity, we took part in a lively ‘Digital Monster-Making’ session — and it was an absolute hit! The room was filled with laughter as we shared our quirky and imaginative monsters, instantly building a sense of camaraderie and team spirit.
By the end of the day, we divided into smaller groups and started having individual discussions about the project, exchanging thoughts and exploring possibilities. The momentum was strong, and we wrapped up feeling inspired and ready for what’s to come!

The site analysis team conducted a thorough and reflective study of the Waterbarn Chapel’s historical significance and structure in relation to the site’s wider context and demographics. The resulting site plan features different pedestrian routes and transportation links near the Chapel and surrounding area, providing valuable insight into the site’s accessibility and connection to the community.

In addition, forensic architectural studies explore the potential structural conditions and design details of the chapel before it was partially damaged by a fire. These investigations provide the team with a better understanding of the site’s context and possible future design strategies.

Day 01 - Welcome New Members

On the first day we welcomed our new members. Did quick introductions to break the ice. After that we quickly shared the information we now have about Gorton Central. As well as what our clients expect from the project and more.

We divided the project into 3 important parts. The masterplan and environmental design, the design of the outdoor classrooms, learning spaces, and the design of the pergola. Everyone chose different groups to discuss according to their preference.

The first day was spent exploring initial ideas, sharing and learning from case studies.

BRAINSTORMING & PLANNING SESSION
After meeting with the clients and visiting the site, our team gathered for our first collaborative brainstorming session. We reflected on the insights shared, discussed potential design ideas, and mapped out the next steps for the herbal-vegetable garden. It was an exciting exchange of creativity and strategy, bringing together different perspectives to shape a space that will truly engage and benefit the local community. This session marked the beginning of turning ideas into action!

DAY 1

For the first day of Action Weeks, we began by introducing ourselves and getting to know one another. Discussing skills everyone would like to learn, their current focus within their own projects and a brief introduction to each as a person.

We then outlined the project scope, detailing the site of focus, the collaborator requests and our aims and schedule for the next two weeks. After lunchtime, we then began researching water collection and redistribution programmes designed to combat the water distribution problems currently faced on site. Forming a basis of understanding for our site visit planned for the following day. This brought everyone up to a level playing field so that everyone could get the most out of the site visit.

Finalising Plans for the Actions Weeks
During our planning meetings, we discussed amongst ourselves what outputs we would be able to produce for the client within the duration of Action Weeks. From there, we came up with drafts for the two-week schedule and considered what daily activities and targets we could achieve when the rest of our team joins us. With our meetings with Eddy, we were able to refine our schedule to consider how to integrate different activities throughout the two weeks that go beyond production. His insight helped us to form a comprehensive strategy for beginning action week.

We can’t wait to get started!

On February 5th, we conducted a site visit to assess the current state of the Waterhouse Chapel. This visit allowed us to gain a comprehensive understanding of the chapel’s condition, architectural details, and any necessary restorations. Through close collaboration with our partners, we gathered valuable insights into both the historical significance and structural requirements of the site. Engaging with the local team provided us with firsthand perspectives on existing challenges and potential areas for enhancement. These findings will play a crucial role in shaping our next steps, and we look forward to implementing strategic improvements to ensure the successful advancement of the project.

Heading Home After Inspiration Day
13/02/05

After an amazing day of workshops and our assembly at Prospect Vale, we travelled back together as a group to make sure everyone got home safely. The journey gave us a perfect chance to reflect on everything that happened — what was said during the assembly, what worked well, and how the kids responded to it all. There were lots of smiles all around, and a real sense of pride in what we’d achieved. It was one of those moments where we all knew: this was a great day, and we’re doing something that really matters.
Some of us also drove to/from the site, as they lived locally!

Inspiration Day: Our Official Site Visit to Prospect Vale.

As part of our Inspiration Day, we had our official site visit to Prospect Vale Primary — and what a day it was! We spent time with the children, staff, and headteacher, and honestly, it exceeded all our expectations. The kids were full of energy and ideas, and it was incredible to see how enthusiastic they were about getting involved. From creative workshops to open conversations, the day was packed with fun, inspiration, and genuine moments of connection.

The staff were so welcoming and supportive, and it was clear how much this project means to the whole school community. It gave us all a real sense of purpose and reminded us exactly why we’re doing this — to create a space that truly reflects the imagination, needs, and voices of the people who use it every day. It was one of those days that made everything feel real, and we walked away feeling more excited than ever for what’s to come.

13/05/25 | Exploring Design Ideas

By the second day the team started to come up with individual design ideas, taking guidance from the tour from Martin in the Poetry Library, and the design brief we laid out for them. The students engaged in the design task from all angles; some kept it sketchy with hand cut models; others designed more conceptually using rhino. Small, informal tutorials from the Masters students happened through the day, allowing the undergraduate students to justify their designs in a friendly manner. Seeing physical models alongside some wonderful sketches was lovely to see.

After a larger group discussion, where we encouraged all the students to chime in, we started to understand the general direction that the designs would follow, and what we plan on showing Martin tomorrow. By the end of the day the students had some lovely concept designs that were almost ready for client consultation.

12/05/25 | Kicking things off!

Our first day began with an informal welcome session where we all introduced ourselves and outlined the brief, goals and timeline of the weeks ahead. Since zines are a big part of what the Poetry Library is about, we all had a go at making one ourselves. This gave the team a chance to get to know each other and to better understand the process of zine making.

After lunch in the sun, we came back together for ‘Harry’s (not so) Famous Pub Quiz’… which ended in a head to head for first place! Well done to the winning team!

The rest of the afternoon was spent with Martin, the Poetry Library programme manager. He joined us in our workspace to show us some example zines and explain what the library is all about. We then headed down to the library for a short tour. This was a great opportunity to ask questions about the brief and photograph and take measurements of the children’s corner. Martin highlighted the importance of nature, flexibility and child-safe design as priorities for the final outcome.

We are looking forward to seeing what designs everyone comes up with tomorrow!

We are super pumped to invite our collaborators and reveal our initial visions for the Gorgeous Gorse Hill!
This gives us a wonderful opportunity to open up the floor to discussions between designers and users, and build up on the project together!

Action Week: Day 2

Today's progress was very smooth. In the morning, we reported and shared our previous research and information with the students, and encouraged everyone to gradually think about the direction of the design plan. In the afternoon, we began to deepen the plan and put forward new ideas for the first floor design and the second floor design. We will discuss the plan openly after each plan drawing, which is conducive to the coordination of our design work and constantly learning new knowledge from others. Today, we also successfully completed the basic design direction of the plan.

Day 2.
Part 2 : The dialogue continues...

After the initial brainstorming and collective discussion, we started taking a structured approach to the project. In order to approach a vision like that for Gorgeous Gorse Hill, it was important to understand the values that this project entails. The work was divided into research and concept development. The site, the region, the history, future plans were researched and every cultural aspect was highlighted to figure the 'value' factors of the project.

Ideations were formed based on the research, architectural understanding, and precedent studies, and were presented in order to continue the creative dialogue. Miro Boards were used to bring these together in one space and sketches emerged as one of the most creative ways to express the vision.

It is needless to say that Gorgeous Gorse Hill is already feeling more Gorgeous!

Action Week: Day 2

This morning we showed the students the basic status of the site and supplemented the content. After active communication, we encouraged everyone to start drawing basic sketches. Everyone's plans and design ideas are great, and everyone has their own unique ideas. We posted everyone's drawing plans on the wall and discussed them together, and made a lot of interesting and important progress.

Day 2.
Part 1 : Pass the pen - The team starts a creative dialogue

The second day started with a brainstorming session with the junior team about our observations and analysis from the site visit conducted on the previous day. Group discussions were followed by insightful individual discussions so that every thought is heard. The team brought interesting insights to the table - what they really like about their communities and what they feel it needs.

Accessibility, identity and vibrant public space were themes we discussed and sketched in conversations and in short drawings. Best of all was seeing our collective enthusiasm shaped into actual ideas, a reminder of why community collaboration is so critical to this project.

Such discussions guided our design process and reminded us that the best ideas come from listening.

Day 2 (13/5) : Print and Merch Development

This morning, the print and merch team began developing sketches based on the precedents we explored on the first day.

We started the day by producing three sketches each, spending 15 minutes developing a rough idea of an illustration which could be used on one of the products and prints we will be making for Radio Diamond.

After producing 3 sketches each, we gathered together and collected everyone's ideas as a group and once we had all seen each others work and shared ideas continued to develop at least one of the sketches by hand in greater detail.

In the afternoon, students continued to develop their designs in preparation for digitalising and refining them further on day 3.

Looking forward to seeing how these designs progress tomorrow!

05.13 _ PRESENTATION TEAM

The presentation is how we are going to teach the children the skills involved in the workshop. We were working out what exactly we needed the children to know and how to best present them to the Year 4s. We needed to make sure the presentation was going to be informative, engaging and interactive, what better way than a bit of a quiz and some involved activities. We were working out how to properly explain architectural terms to children in a way they would understand and be able to apply to later activities. We are making sure to keep it colourful and creative and inspire some young architects in the room!

05.13 _ MODEL MAKING TEAM

The model making team were taking their digital models and drawings to the physical today with a trip to the B15 workshop. We were working on creating a prototype model of the caretakers house and the outhouses at a 1:50 scale. Good news; it worked!
We will be creating 3D models of the site for the children to build on and extend with their own materials and ideas on the workshop day, so they can get really hands on with the space.
We are working on preparing the files ready for laser cutting our model components later in the week. There’s lots of models to come, hopefully we have enough hands to carry them all!

05.13 _ PAPER FOLDING TEAM

Day 2 involved us getting more a hands on with our work. We have been working on creating a net of the caretakers house that the children can cut out, fold up and stick together from a single A3 piece of paper. We had to think: ‘how do we make this 3D building into a 2D net?’
Using the 2D drawings kindly provided by our collaborator, Laura, we printed them out and stuck them together, cutting off pieces, sticking them in new places and adding other pieces to convert the 2D drawings to 3D. This allowed us to create our first prototype of the net and the first model iteration. Still some amendments to make to get it right but we’re well on our way!

We spent today building on the ideas we kicked off yesterday, getting stuck into refining our concepts and getting things ready for Thursday’s client review.

We started thinking a bit more technically about our designs and how we’ll present everything, making sure our ideas not only look good but actually work!

We’ve been working in pairs and small groups, bouncing thoughts around and starting to shape our project into something we’re really excited about.

Can’t wait to see how it all comes together over the next few days!

Today, group 38 had a site visit at Victoria Baths.

We have taken a better look at the pool areas, as well as some smaller rooms that we could potentially adapt.

Overall, the visit was deeply inspiring. The students had a great range of ideas and we are motivated to start implementing them from tomorrow.
