Course: MArch 1
Atelier: Flux
Hi I’m Kay.
I went to University of Plymouth for my undergrad. After that I went for work in both architectural design firm and interior design firm during that I have involved with different household, shops and churches design. While out of architecture, I like photographing the moment in life and crafting different things like leather and woodwork. Therefore I’m excited to see what we could come up with at the end, by using recycled plastic giving the object a second life with purpose.

May 14th

We kicked off the day by announcing the four furniture ideas we’ll be developing further: the weaving lounge, a workshop table and chair set, a chandelier, and a pegboard wall. Super exciting to see these ideas starting to take shape! We also had a great session with Jaime, who introduced us to some really cool techniques like laser cutting and 3D printing with recycled plastic—definitely opened up new possibilities for how we can connect and shape our pieces. Later on, we shared our preliminary design concepts with Caitlin and got some helpful feedback to keep things moving forward.

Let’s grow fungi!!! A little side track from our main activities today—we joined a fungi planting workshop hosted by FungALL after our presentation with Caitlin. It was such a relaxing and refreshing part of the day. Definitely a fun change of pace and a nice way to unwind while still getting our hands creatively dirty!

May 16th (Morning)

Today, we moved on with adding more details towards our furniture design. We test out our ideas with making both physical and digital models. By then, we have further developed our thoughts on having an assembly guidebook for each of our products, it comes with the introduction of the product, amount of components needed, and step by step instructions.

May 19th (Morning)

Today, we kept working on our furniture design guidebook. The MArch teams shared a more polished version, giving us a clearer idea of what to include and how it should look. Some teams are diving deeper into digital modelling, while others have started bringing their designs to life over in B15—exciting to see things moving from paper to physical form!

Today, we have test and explore another way to make the furniture prototype. We used laser cut machine to cut out the shape of our table and chsir set from a piece of plastic sheet to build a scale model of it. We are glad that it went great and we can start to assemble the pieces together to form the chair and table.
